NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Longtime Tennessee Titans punter Brett Kern announced his retirement Thursday after a 15-year career.
The Titans claimed Kern in 2009, and he quickly became a mainstay for the franchise.
Kern was with the Titans from 2009-2022, and set numerous franchise records during that time. He currently holds the franchise record for punts (923), gross punting average (45.9 yards), net punting average (40.8) and punts placed inside the 20 (373).
In addition, Kern appeared in 197 games for the Titans- more than any other player during the team’s Titans era (since 1999).
“I want to congratulate Brett on an amazing NFL career,” said Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk. After being named to three Pro Bowls, receiving All-Pro honors and setting record after record, he would be on a very short list of the best waiver claims our organization has ever made. Brett will always be considered part of the Titans family, and we wish him continued success in the years to come.”
Kern began his career in 2008 with the Denver Broncos, but was waived by the team after 22 games. This set the stage for the Titans to claim him just days later.
Kern finished his career with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2022-2023 season, appearing in two postseason games and helping the team reach Super Bowl LVII.
