A Florida man went from suspect to a victim in need of help after trying to flee from police in a canal, only to be overwhelmed by algae.

The Cape Coral Police Department posted body camera video of the odd arrest which took place on September 1.

Police were attempting to pull over suspect Albraham Duarte for speeding when he stopped his car and fled on foot, jumping into a canal to avoid capture. However, Duarte was quickly overcome by the algae, swallowing some.

Duarte stopped fleeing and instead started calling out to police for help. Officers were able to take Duarte into custody and went the extra mile, hosing him off with a neighbor's water hose and taking him to the hospital as a precaution.

Police say Duarte was arrested for resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance after seven vials of THC oil were found in the vehicle.
