Convicted killer and illegal immigrant Danelo Cavalcante made headlines after it took police nearly two weeks to find the inmate after escaping a Pennsylvania prison.

Prior to his unlawful entry into the U.S., he was wanted for yet another homicide.

Former Acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat to discuss the issue.

“You highlight exactly how this individual came to be in the United States and he's a whole new kind of scumbag. He killed his girlfriend by stabbing her 38 times in front of her two children. That's just unimaginable,” he said. “This is what's so frustrating. This is exactly why it goes to the heart of why borders matter, of why we must have the ability, not only tools and resources but the policies and political will to know who and what is coming to our border and the ability to stop bad things and bad people coming.”

Cavalcante entered the U.S. less than five years ago after he was convicted of stabbing and killing his ex-girlfriend in front of her seven-year-old and three-year-old children back in 2021.

“The reality is in the last 32 months, we've seen over 60,000 Criminals come to our borders that we've apprehended, including 130 murderers, rapists, pedophiles, aggravated felons and gang members. So everybody listening right now if they think this guy this scumbag is an anomaly, it's not. It's happening all the time,” Morgan said. “One of the big lies that have been told to this country is that these poor, vulnerable migrants looking for a better life are good people. It's not. It's a big lie being perpetrated on the American people.”
