Woman charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication in fatal Bell Road crash
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Metro Nashville Police have arrested a woman charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication Thursday night.
Police say 31-year-old Whittney Martinez was responsible for a head-on collision on Bell Road near Nashville Shores that killed her male passenger.
Investigators state Martinez was driving her 1994 Toyota Tercel south on Bell Road around 8:10 p.m. when she crossed the double yellow line and into the opposite lane in order to pass a vehicle. While in the lane, she struck a vehicle head-on, ejecting her passenger who died at the scene.
41-year-old Adrian Lightap of Hermitage has been identified as the deceased. The driver of the other vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Police say Martinez admitted to drinking alcohol and taking a prescribed muscle relaxer earlier in the day.
Martinez is being held on $30,000 bond in the Davidson County Jail.
