NASHVILLE, Tenn.--New video shared with FOX 17 News shows Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his family escaping from a plane moments after it crashed and caught fire.

The NASCAR legend was flying into Tennessee for the Bristol Motor Speedway race when his plane crashed in Elizabethton. Officials said he and the family were able to make it off without injury.

On Friday, Earnhardt Jr. said he would be taking the weekend off from broadcasting the race to be with his family. Earnhardt was scheduled to be part of NBC Sports' broadcast of Saturday night's Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race. Earnhardt retired from the Monstor Energy Cup Series following the 2017 season. He's in his second season serving as an analyst for NBC's NASCAR coverage.

The NTSB is conducting an investigation into the crash and a press conference is expected Friday at 2 pm EST. The American Red Cross of Tennessee has also responded to the scene to assist the 100 first responders who helped in the wake of the crash.
