NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A phishing campaign targets a mid-state university.
Vanderbilt University's IT security team is looking into a widespread phishing campaign that is currently targeting the university, the school reported Thursday. The subject of the phishing email is “Heal Torture AID (Part-Time).”
Anyone who receives the email is asked not to respond or open any links, and also is asked to forward the email to VUIT.
On October 28, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Health and Human Services reported that they have credible information of an increased and imminent cybercrime threat to U.S. hospitals and healthcare providers.
At least five U.S. hospitals have been the victims of ransomware attacks, according to the Associated Press.
It is unknown if the Vanderbilt University incident is connected to the ransomware targeting the healthcare and public health sector.
