UT officially names Jeremy Pruitt as new head football coach

UPDATE: Rocky Top officially has a new head coach.

The University of Tennessee announced on Thursday the college has finalized a deal with Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, 43.

A news conference is slated to be held at 5:05 p.m. CST. FOX 17 News will stream the conference on Facebook.

"Six days ago, I mentioned several attributes that I sought to find in the next leader of our football program, and Coach Pruitt meets all criteria" UT Athletics Director Phillip Fulmer said. "I'm certain he appreciates the unique opportunity to lead a program of Tennessee's caliber. He's driven to win at the highest level. He will honor our university's values, operate with integrity and be a role model for our student-athletes. I know Coach Pruitt will hit the ground running and go to work restoring our program to a championship level."

Pruitt is now the 26th coach at UT. He hails from Rainsville, Ala. and was part of three national championships.


According to ESPN, Rock Top is officially about to have a head football couch.

Sources told ESPN the University of Tennessee has finalized a deal with Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, 43.

The team is expected to make the announcement Thursday evening.

This comes after UT replaced former athletic director John Currie with veteran UT coach Philip Fulmer. Fulmer is the second-winningest coach in Tennessee football history, UT said.
