Two charged after Murfreesboro officer struck by vehicle during police chase
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WZTV) —
A Murfreesboro Police Officer was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle during a police chase and two suspects are in custody.
Justin Arwood and Sarah Dalton both had outstanding warrants for their arrest. Arwood is now charged with driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, felony evading arrest and aggravated assault.
A new release says a Murfreesboro Police officer was patrolling the area of 2424 S. Church Street when he found Arwood and Dalton in a car. When the police officer tried to speak with the suspects, they were uncooperative and fled. In doing so, the police officer was struck by the vehicle.
The officer got back in his patrol car to try and stop the suspects, but they continued to flee onto Interstate 24. Murfreesboro Police and Rutherford County joined in the chase, which went across county lines into Coffee County. Coffee County deputies ultimately stopped the chase with a tire deflation device.
Arwood is then accused of physically resisting his arrest and police deployed a Taser.
The Murfreesboro Police Officer sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
