Twin babies dead after swept away in flood waters in Waverly, grandmother says

WAVERLY, Tenn. (WZTV) — More heartbreaking news is coming out of catamorphic flooding in Middle Tennessee this weekend, including the loss of twin babies who family says passed away after they were swept away by flood waters in Humphreys County.

The twins' grandmother Angie Willeby tells FOX 17 News the twins, 7-month-old Ryan and Riliegh, were swept away when flooding gripped Waverly on Saturday.

According to a GoFundMe page shared with Reporter Amanda Chin, the father of the twins was holding the twins and other children when sadly, the two babies left his arms.

The fundraiser has a goal of $5,000 to help the family.

Expenses, flowers for the funeral, for the house they lost but Most important is the help for these beautiful baby’s that gained there wings today!

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis says multiple casualties were reported during historic rainfall.

The National Weather Service reports 17.02 inches of rain fell in 24 hours in McEwen, also part of Humphreys County, shattering Middle Tennessee's record for the amount of rainfall in 24 hours.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency has issued a State of Emergency for flooding.

The Tennessee National Guard, Tennessee Department of Transportation, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Department of Education, Tennessee Department of Human Needs, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Fire Mutual Aid, and other agencies are responding to the situation.
