Travel records show details about meal, hotel expenses during Mayor Barry's affair

Fox 17 News is digging deeper into the details surrounding trips Mayor Megan Barry took with her former head of security in the wake of their admitted affair.

Mayor's Barry's Office gave Fox 17 News a stack of papers that outline a number of expenses with details on who paid for what.

Barry admitted to a nearly two year affair with Sgt. Rob Forrest, her former head of security detail. She says Chief Steve Anderson recommended she always have security with her.

Travel records show where Forrest traveled with Barry, several times alone. One expense shows a receipt for breakfast for "MB" and Forrest at Tequileria in Kansas City for $32. Another receipt for $16 was spent to to upgrade Forrest's plane seat so he could sit next to the Mayor.

There’s also an email for a trip to DC for the Women in Government Leadership Program where the mayor's staff coordinated Forrest and Barry getting booked at the same hotel.Staff also made special last minute accommodations to add Forrest to dinner plans with Barry.

The large stack of paperwork included documents showing where Chief Anderson signed off on Forrest's expenses.

Vice Mayor David Briley is expected to announce next week who will sit on a special investigative committee comprised of Metro Council members.

Council members voted favorably for a resolution requested by Councilwoman Tanaka Vercher. She called for a specially appointed committee to determine if Barry and Forrest improperly used taxpayer money during their affair. The committee will have subpoena power, requesting all documents and records it deems necessary for the investigation.

The TBI is also conducting a separate investigation looking at the same thing. A third investigation is also underway.

The City’s legal department received an ethics complaint filed by the Community Oversite Now Coalition against Barry. They believe her affair with Forrest impacted her actions with the Police Department.
