THP identifies woman killed in I-65 crash near Spring Hill

The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified a 35-year-old woman killed in a crash that shut down I-65 on Monday.

According to the THP, Michelle Sampson from Franklin was killed in the crash while driving a Jeep.

Four other people were injured:

  • 32-year-old Erin Clegg from Spring Hill
  • 55-year-old Charles Cresswell, driving a tractor trailer from Illinois
  • 49-year-old Tracy Bolton from Lynnville
  • a 15-year-old passenger in Bolton's car

The crash closed down I-65 on Monday afternoon, with lanes not fully open until after 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The closure caused gridlock along the interstate and traffic backups along side roads.

Emergency crews landed two medical helicopters on the highway to transport patients from the crash.

The THP has not released any additional information about what caused the crash or the conditions of the people injured.
