MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee senator wants pornography to be recognized as a "public health crisis."
Mt. Juliet Republican Mae Beavers says she's pushing for the resolution after getting calls from a group in Memphis studying what they call a " hypersexualization in teens and kids."
The resolution says pornography "treats women and children as objects," sensationalizes rape culture and sex trafficking and makes men less interested in getting married.
Beavers is pushing for education, prevention and research to tackle what she calls "an epidemic damaging families."
