Tennessee mom and boyfriend accused of abusing, neglecting vulnerable daughter
DECATURVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee mother and her boyfriend are accused of abusing and neglecting the woman's adult daughter who relied on them for care.
An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Medicaid Fraud Control Division and Criminal Investigation Division has resulted in the arrests of Belynda Antonette Scott and Carlos Taylor Johnson. Agents started looking into Scott and Johnson on Dec. 30, 2020, after Scott's 21-year-old daughter was admitted to a Memphis hospital. After executing a search warrant at their Decaturville home, agents reported that between May 1 and Dec. 29, 2020, Scott and Johnson were responsible for the abuse and neglect of the woman.
The TBI arrested Scott and Johnson on Jan. 7. Both are charged with one count of aggravated neglect of a vulnerable adult (physical harm), aggravated neglect of a vulnerable adult (bodily injury), and aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult. They were booked into the Shelby County Jail on $250,000 bond as they await transfers to the Decatur County Jail.
