A proposed Tennessee bill would expand alcohol sales on holidays.

Current law let Tennesseans buy beer, wine and spirits from stores and restaurants on Labor Day, New Year's Day and July 4th.

This proposal would add Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter to the list.

Alcoholic Beverages - As introduced, removes the prohibition on retail sales of alcoholic beverages and wine on Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. - Amends TCA Title 57.

There are still several hurdles to go before it becomes law.

Senator Jon Lundberg (R-Bristol) introduced the bill, SB 0266, Thursday.

It still needs to go through a committee before lawmakers vote on it.

It's only been three years since Tennessee began to permit alcohol sales on Sundays. In 2018, the move came with mixed reactions from the state. The law prohibited the sale of alcohol on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter - something this bill is trying to now change.
