Sex crimes detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department have charged Dantis Lakka-Lako, who turned 17 Tuesday, with aggravated rape, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary for last Wednesday’s rape and robbery of a pregnant woman inside her apartment at the Overlook Apartments complex on Bell Road.

Detectives went to Lakka-Lako's apartment on Hickory Hollow Place Tuesday to execute a search warrant for his DNA. Statements made by the teen during his interview with investigators led to his arrest on the rape, robbery and burglary charges.

The 30-year-old pregnant victim arrived to her apartment at the Overlook complex from the store at 4:10 p.m. last Wednesday and parked outside of her building. Investigators believe Lakka-Lako entered her apartment as she was making a second trip to her car to get groceries.

The woman was lying down when police say Lakka-Lako came into her bedroom armed with a knife from her kitchen. He allegedly demanded money and told her not to run before stealing belongings from her purse and raping her.

Metro Police say during the victim's struggle with her attacker, she managed to hit him over the head with a bottle, causing him to leave the room. That's when she used the knife he allegedly left behind to slash the window screen and jump from her third story bedroom window to escape him.

The suspect then jumped into the victim's vehicle and drove away from the apartment complex. Authorities say a major break in the case came Friday when the victim's Toyota Camry was found at the same apartment complex where Lakka-Lako lives after people spotted it in the parking lot and called police.

Detectives connected the teen's name to the investigation after the car was forensically analyzed for evidence at the MNPD's crime lab. Officials tell FOX 17 News a person matching Lakka-Lako's description used the victim's credit card four separate times Thursday and Friday at a Bell Road convenience market.

The victim continues to recover in a medical facility after receiving serious injuries from the incident.
