TBI identifies body found in Smithville yard as Cannon County woman

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department asked for the public's help identifying the body of a woman found Monday morning in a Smithville yard. She has since been identified through her fingerprints as Jessica Renee Stephens, 28, of Cannon County.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of death and say no ID was present at the scene. An exact cause of death will be determined following autopsy and toxicology reports by officials.

The TBI initially believed the woman was approximately 30 to 40 years old with sandy blonde hair, 5'4", weighing 125 lbs. She has a pierced belly button, a cross tattoo on the back of her neck, and what appears to be a "M", "W" or "3" tattoed on her right hand.

The body of Stephens was discovered wearing maroon medical scrubs and brown boots. Officers say an orange Home Depot jersey, brown jacket and blue shirt were also found at the scene.

Anyone with information about the case has been urged to call DeKalb Central Dispatch at 615-215-3000 or TBI tip line at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
