Suspect recorded assaulting officer found with drugs in pocket after arrest

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The 22-year-old who was recorded attacking a Metro Police officer in East Nashville is also facing possession of a controlled substance charges among others for his assault.
According to the arrest affidavit, Brian E. Shannon was found with "4 partial prescription Xanax bars in a plastic bag in his right front pocket" following his arrest.

In a description of what took place, Shannon is accused of first getting into a physical altercation with a female on S. 7th Street near Sylvan St. when Officer Cammarn observed Shannon push the woman. When Officer Cammarn approached Shannon, the defendant "walked up to Officer Cammarn in an aggressive manner." Shannon refused to be taken into custody, grabbing the officer and pulling him to the ground as was captured on video.
During the struggle, the affidavit states "other subjects in the area also pulled and pushed Officer Cammarn off of the suspect." Cammarn was able to escape on foot but the officer gave chase, capturing Shannon on S. 6th Street.
Shannon is facing charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, Evading Arrest and Aggravated Assault of an Officer.
