Police arrest woman, recover gun in serious East Nashville shooting

(FOX 17 News)

UPDATE: Police said a man was shot outside his car during an apparent robbery near popular restaurants in East Nashville.

Metro Nashville Police spotted the 23-year-old female suspect driving a Dodge Avenger seen at the shooting earlier on Wednesday. When she was taken into custody, police also recovered a pistol.

Metro Police said the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being shot near Mas Tacos and The Pharmacy along McFerrin Avenue early Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the suspects, described as two black females, pulled up next to the victim in a grey Dodge Avenger. Police said a passenger got out and confronted the victim at gunpoint. At some point during the confrontation, the victim, a man in his mid-50s, was shot.

Police don't believe the suspects and victim knew each other. The victim remains hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries, but is reported to be alert and talking with police.

Right now, police are searching the area and looking to obtain surveillance video from nearby businesses. Meigs Middle Schools went on lockout due to the search.

Police say it's not typical to have female shooting suspects and a shooting in this area, which is popular with locals and tourists alike, in broad daylight.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
