NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Roland Martin, a political commentator and acclaimed journalist, is slated to deliver the commencement address for Tennessee State University's fall graduation ceremony.
The commencement will happen Dec. 7 in the Howard C. Gentry Complex starting at 8 a.m.
Martin serves as the managing editor and host of #RolandMartinUnfiltered, a daily online show that analyzes a variety of topics from an African-American perspective. Over the course of his journalistic career, Martin has interviewed multiple U.S. presidents, entertainers and athletes.
From 2013 to 2017, Martin worked as the host and managing editor of daily morning news show NewsOneNow. He also spent six years as a CNN contributor.
Martin has authored three books: Listening to the Spirit Within: 50 Perspectives on Faith; Speak, Brother! A Black Man’s View of America; and The First: President Barack Obama’s Road to the White House as originally reported by Roland S. Martin.
Martin will give his commencement address to 581 undergraduate and graduate students receiving degrees in various fields.
