Metro Nashville Police said a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in East Nashville on Wednesday and a suspect has been charged in his death.

Police said the Jeremiah Shelton was found shot in the chest at the Berkshire Place Apartments on Porter Road. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.

Shelton was a freshman at Whites Creek High School. Police said officers interviewed four teens, three boys and one girl, about the moments leading to the deadly shooting.

One of the males turned out to be the suspect, Joshua Hockett. He admitted to accidentally shooting Shelton while they were "play fighting."

A black revolver matching the description given by the interviewees was found in a closet of the apartment and collected.

Hockett was arrested and charged with criminal homicide.
