NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Elmo, Big Bird and the Cookie Monster are being pulled from Pampers diapers. Procter and Gamble, the maker of Pampers, quietly began replacing the Sesame Street characters over the summer.
According to a report from the New York Post, P & G customer service representatives have reportedly stated the changes came after parents complained of too many male characters on the diapers.
However, Pampers responded on social media, saying the reason for the change was not over complaints but to add colorful graphics. Pampers has been firing back on social media all day, denying the claim of gender complaints.
Procter and Gamble confirmed the switch to different graphics on the diapers, but did not provide a reason.
