New week-to-week Tennessee unemployment claims have decreased slightly.

Last week, the Tennessee Department of Labor reports 7,770 new claims were filed in the state. That's down a couple thousand claims from the week before. The state says there have been 899,368 claims since mid-March. Click here for a clickable map by county.

Both Gov. Lee and Nashville Mayor Cooper said they will not close more businesses.

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce said just last week, there were 70,982 continuing unemployment claims in the state. Here's a breakdown of the numbers:

  • March 14: 2,702 new claims, 16.342 continuing claims
  • March 21: 39,096 new claims, 16,098 continuing claims
  • March 28: 94,492 new claims. 34,570 continuing claims
  • April 4: 116,141 new claims, 112,438 continuing claims
  • April 11: 74,772 new claims, 199,910 continuing claims
  • April 18: 68,968 new claims, 267,053 continuing claims
  • April 25: 43,792 new claims, 324,543 continuing claims
  • May 2: 37,319 new claims, 321,571 continuing claims
  • May 9: 29,308 new claims, 325,095 continuing claims
  • May 16: 28,692 new claims, 314,487 continuing claims
  • May 23: 26,041 new claims, 310,126 continued claims
  • May 30: 22,784 new claims, 302,260 continued claims
  • June 6: 21,417 new claims, 292,234 continued claims
  • June 13: 19,925 new claims, 280,593 continuing claims
  • June 20: 21,155 new claims, 266,596 continuing claims

Data shows some of the hardest hit areas of unemployment include northern Middle Tennessee, the greater Memphis area and East Tennessee.
