Nashville woman charged with DUI, open container after crashing into THP Trooper
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--A 23-year-old woman has been charged DUI and open container violation after crashing into a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper's cruiser.
Lt. Travis Plotzer says Maria Carapia of Nashville was also charged with possession of schedule 4 and 2 substances.
According to preliminary information, Sgt. Turocy, was performing a stationary observation on the side of Briley Parkway in his marked patrol car when he was struck by a 2011 BMW driven by Carapia.
According to the arrest affidavit, Carapia stated she had one beer prior to getting behind the wheel. Inside her car, police found an open bottle of Jose Cuervo half-full and a small amount of marijuana. Officers also found a baggie containing Zolpidem, a sedative which treats insomnia.
The affidavit states the trooper was injured but did not express the severity of his injuries. Sgt. Turocy is actively involved in M.A.D.D. and the prevention of drinking and driving.
Carapia was arrested and booked into the Davidson County Jail Thursday morning following the crash.
