NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nashville's VA Medical announced Friday its ICU received multiple awards last week for improving its patient outcomes.
According to the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, the medical center received seven awards last week, including the Top Team Performance Award, from the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Tennessee's VA Healthcare System was among the two VAs of 77 ICUs from around the country to participate in a 20-month-long ICU implementation study. The study is part of an effort to reduce impairments that many survivors of critical illness often suffer after their time in the ICU.
The VA said it has undertaken the initiative to enhance the quality of life for its Veteran ICU survivors, who often suffer physical, cognitive, and mental health impairments leading to a reduced quality of life following critical illness.
