One man was recovered from Percy Priest Lake on Friday after a boat capsized overnight, officials confirm.

A group of six people were fishing near the Poole Knob Recreation Area around 1 a.m. Friday when they decided to move locations, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) confirmed.

TWRA reported that while the group was traveling in the boat, it began to take on water and capsized.

Everyone aboard the boat was able to make it safely to shore except one man, who has been identified as 19-year-old Myo Kyo of Smyrna.

TWRA officers responded to Percy Priest Lake around 1:30 a.m. Friday and searched the Bryant Recreation Area by boat for Kyo.

When the boat capsized everyone fell into the water, TWRA confirmed. The group said they tried to save Kyo, but they were not able to.

Kyo's body was recovered from the lake Friday morning around 7:30 a.m.

TWRA states this incident is the eighth boating related fatality of 2023. This is an ongoing investigation.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for Kyo's family.
