Metro Nashville is opening overflow shelters for anticipated cold weather Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry said an overflow shelter will be opening at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Banquet Hall at the Fairgrounds. Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Wednesday night.

The overflow shelter will be open until 8 a.m. Thursday and people with pets are welcome.

Barry is encouraging residents to use existing shelters before resorting to the overflow shelter.
