WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — Debate continues within Wilson County Schools over which books should be allowed in the classroom.
The book "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" got moved to the mature section a few weeks ago, but now some parents and students are pushing back.
School staff say they are being thrown into the middle of a culture war.
"For the first five years I served in Mt. Juliet, I received zero challenges about removing books from the library," said Mt. Juliet High School Librarian, Brook Holloway.
Now every school board meeting general assembly and the national news features upset citizens painting librarians as pushers of pornography and insinuating that we are grooming children because we offer them a choice of reading materials.
Other teachers worry that putting books in the mature section will entice more students to read them.
