Nashville high school football recruit plans to stick with UT despite Jones' firing
NASHVILLE, Tenn. —
A Nashville Christian School football recruit said on Monday that he's sticking with UT amid Butch Jones' firing over the weekend.
In the middle of being recruited by schools from around the country, 6-foot, 300-pound defensive lineman Brant Lawless decided in May to play football for the University of Tennessee.
Butch Jones, who helped bring Lawless to Knoxville, was fired over the weekend. Despite that, Lawless said he's still going to play for UT.
”It’s a place I just, I wanted to go to and play, and every time I went, I felt like I was at home,” Lawless said.
Lawless, who wears number 34 for Nashville Christian School, is preparing for the team's upcoming playoff game on Saturday. When Lawless graduates high school, he plans to study criminal justice at UT when he's not out on the field.
“I have to do my job at the end of the day, which is play football," Lawless said. "Get my job done, hopefully, I trust them they get the right guy in, and I come in and play my roll."
