Nashville Family Dollar employee charged after shooting shoplifting suspect

(Metro Police)

A man was arrested after Metro Police said he shot a shoplifting suspect.

It happened at the store located at 2600 Jefferson Avenue Wednesday night.

A Metro Police affidavit said a man was found with a gunshot wound on his foot and transported to the hospital. Police questioned employee Devereaux Evans who said he had gotten into an argument with the victim over a shoplifting incident. Records show Evans told police he didn't know anything about the shooting.

However, surveillance video showed Evans apparently trying to hide a handgun after the shooting. A gun was subsequently recovered from Family Dollar.

After being questioned at the North Precinct, police said Evans admitted to the shooting.

He's being charged with aggravated assault and was booked into Metro Jail on a $2,500 bond.
