Nashville Council votes to request Columbus Day be recognized as Indigenous Peoples' Day
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
Metro council voted to request a move to recognize Columbus Day as "Indigenous Peoples' Day."
However, the new name won't replace Columbus Day.
It's basically a request to Nashville businesses and organizations to use a name that acknowledges the influences of indigenous culture throughout our history.
"I appreciate support of Indigenous Peoples' Day resolution's cosponsors, healthy discussion of this modest bill among CMs and constituents," East Nashville Councilman Brett Withers said in a tweet.
