NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) -- A wife and mother out of Murfreesboro is stuck in Mexico due to state border laws.

Alma Goddard entered the country illegally with her young daughter, but married Shane, an American born-citizen, in 2008 where they had three more children, reports the Daily News Journal.

Alma and Shane have been married for ten years, she's now banned from coming back into the United States. She is stuck in one of the most dangerous cities in the world, Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.

Shane claims that they have done everything they can to gain her citizenship, but the only option left was for her to return to Mexico and wait to be granted residency back into the U.S. Alma already had her visa in review, but when she went to the United States Consulate in Mexico, Shane said that his wife was accused of lying to an immigration officer by claiming to be a U.S. citizen. Falsifying citizenship is subjected for approval in prohibiting someone to returning to America.

"Knowing that I don't know when my mom will be back ... makes me depressed. ... She's our mother, she's a wife ... she's just an important role in other people's lives," said Sylvia, Alma's oldest daughter, according to DNJ.
