Friday was a super special day for a Brentwood boy doctors thought wouldn't make it to age 12, but Dylan Young defied all medical odds, turning 18 years old on April 1!

FOX 17 News was there capturing all the excitement for Dylan Young's big 18th birthday.

At six months, he had his first seizure and by the time he made it to kindergarten at Crockett Elementary, he was having up to 200 seizures a day.

Doctors diagnosed Dylan with hemimegalencephaly. This means one side of the brain was severely misformed and causing life threatening seizures. Dylan’s dad Bryan Young says he wasn’t able to eat or thrive in virtually any way.

Ultimately, doctors recommended removing a section of his brain which Dylan’s parents say saved his life.

Young explains, “This is the little guy that we had full intentions that we weren't going to make it here. At his worst we were having 150 - 200 seizures a day. It got to he point where his kindergarten year we spent 280 days that year at Vanderbilt. So, symptom wise he was 6 years old, 32 pounds, functioning like a 2 year old. He wouldn't eat anything. It was an event to have him finish a chicken nugget as a 5 year old.”

Happy 18th birthday Dylan from FOX 17 News!! Thanks for inspiring all who get to see your story.
