Middle Tennessee parents arrested after first responders save newborn baby
FRANKLIN, Tenn.--Parents of a newborn baby in Franklin have been arrested after the one-and-a-half-month-old boy was found injured and not breathing.
The Franklin Police Department says officers responded to the scene back on March 26 after a family member noticed the boy was not breathing. First responders were able to save the child after performing CPR.
Police found father DeMarcus Helm was responsible for "extensive injuries" to the child. 21-year-old mom Tytianna Jones was also arrested after allegedly lying to police about the child's injuries.
Both parents were indicted by a grand jury and arrested last Friday.
Helm is facing two charges of aggravated child abuse. Jones faces child endangerment and accessory after the fact charges.
Police say the child is currently in the care of the Department of Children Services.
