Police identify young Nashville man unintentionally shot, killed by friend

Metro Police said a 20 year old was killed when his friend accidentally shot him in the head.

Police said the victim's friend admitted to police that he was handling a gun, which he thought was unloaded, and when he pulled the trigger, the gun fired and struck his friend in the head.

The victim has since been identified as Tyler A. Payne, of Nashville.

The two were on their way to Southern Hills Medical Center when he pulled over near businesses along Nolensville Pike and called 911. The victim was pronounced dead in the vehicle.

The victim has not yet been identified. Police said his friend has been cooperating with police. The shooting remains under investigation with the District Attorney's Office.

The victim's friend is not being charged at this time.

The shooting is one of three on Thursday. A 74 year old was killed while retrieving a trash can near J.C. Napier homes and another shooting stemming from an attempted robbery was reported near West Nashville Kroger.
