Metro Police are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of a man found dead inside a minivan early Friday morning.

Police identified the man as James Span, 51, who was found in an alley behind an apartment in the 800 block of Taylor Street. Witness told officers Span and another individual were arguing inside the apartment and both were asked to leave.

Shortly after, gunshots were heard. Responding officers found Span in the driver's seat of a Dodge minivan. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metro Police found a man shot to death inside a minivan outside a low-income housing complex in North Nashville early Friday.

The call came in for a gunshot wound victim at 3:35 a.m. after police were responding to a report of shots fired outside the housing complex on the the corner of Taylor Street and 9th Avenue North just behind the Monroe Street Kroger. The victim was found dead at the scene slumped over inside the van.

It appeared the 51-year-old male was shot outside the vehicle and went back in his car before succumbing to his injuries.

Police are still investigating the shooting, and MNPD said the details are still mostly unknown.

Police do not have suspects at this time, but detectives are questioning witnesses at the station.
