Metro Nashville Public Schools to name teacher of the year

Metro Nashville Public Schools plans to honor more than 130 teachers, principals and substitutes on Tuesday at its Teacher of the Year reception.

The program seeks to recognize teachers for the dedication to MNPS students.

MNPS said the nominated teachers were chosen by their colleagues as examples of excellent educators. At Tuesday's ceremony, three finalists from elementary, middle and high school levels will be nominated and a district-wide teacher of the year will be named.


Elementary School Tier:

  • Jennifer Barnes, Lockeland Elementary School
  • Hannah Strickland, Charlotte Park Elementary School
  • Jamia Lockmiller, Tusculum Elementary School

Middle School Tier:

  • Amanda Funderburk, Bellevue Middle School
  • Matthew Taylor, Meigs Middle Magnet School
  • Caroline Smith, H.G. Hill Middle School

High School Tier:

  • Wanda Moore, Stratford STEM Magnet High School
  • Angela Allen, McGavock High School
  • Christopher Hedglin, Hume-Fogg Magnet High School
