Dhargham Ateia-Metro Nashville Police

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--A man who had just been convicted of marijuana and gun possession has been identified as the victim in a fatal hotel shooting.

Metro Nashville Police say Dhargham Ateia was killed Tuesday night at the InTown Suites located at 2823 Murfreesboro Pike. Ateia's brother told police he was staying in a room above Ateia when he heard yelling and multiple gunshots in the parking area.

Ateia was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Police are looking into his previous history to identify the person(s) responsible for Tuesday's killing. Police say just 11 days before the shooting, Ateia had been convicted on charges of possession of 28 pounds of marijuana for resale and being in possession of a stolen gun. He was on supervised release, slated to serve two years probation.
