NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) -- Security guards fired on a gunman at an east Nashville hookah bar killing him.

Metro Nashville police are working to determine if four security guards at Cloud IX Hookah Bar at the 3800 block of Gallatin Pike were defending themselves early Sunday morning by shooting a man who is alleged to have shot at them.

The man killed is identified as 30-yer-old Jason McClain of Nashville. According to his Facebook page he attended Oakwood High School and studied at Middle Tennessee State University.

McClain reportedly was asked to leave and escorted out of the bar just before 1 a.m. He then allegedly retrieved a gun and fired at security guards, according to police, who say he died in an exchange of gunfire with security guards.

There are no charges at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

There was a deadly shooting outside the club in May that killed 27-year-old Nigel Phill of Nashville.
