UPDATE: Metro Police said the cause of death of a man who was found near a burned vehicle in North Nashville was likely caused by medical factors.

Jackie Mayes, 59, significant heart issues.

Mayes’ body was discovered Tuesday morning in an alley in the 2100 block of Owen Street.

UPDATE: Police have identified a man whose body was found near John Early Middle School on Tuesday.

Metro detectives say Jackie Mayes, 59, was found near a partially burnt Chevy Blazer about 8:30 a.m. near Owen Street and Cass Street. A Metro Public Works employee found the body.

An initial exam of the body did not determine a cause of death and the body is being sent for an autopsy on Wednesday.

Anyone with information regarding Mayes' death or his whereabouts prior to Tuesday morning should call police at 615-862-7901.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Metro Nashville Police are on the scene of a death investigation near John Early Middle School.

Police on the scene say a male was found deceased next to a partially burned vehicle in an alley off of 11th Avenue North. Residents in the area say police have been on the scene since this morning.

Police add they are investigating the death as a homicide, though that cannot be confirmed until the Medical Examiner arrives on scene to determine cause of death.
