Man dies in canoeing accident in Humphreys County
HUMPHREYS COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) —
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has identified a man killed in a canoeing accident in the Buffalo River over the weekend.
Roger Balentine, 53, of Cedar Grove died Sunday.
TWRA agents said Balentine and his girlfriend had gotten stuck in a sunken treetop while canoeing. Balentine apparently went swimming to retrieve objects that had fallen out of the canoe, but never resurfaced after going under water.
The Dickson County Dive Team recovered Balentine's body a few hours later not far from where he went missing.
TWRA said Balentine was not wearing a life jacket.
