Man charged with aunt's murder inside their Brentwood home
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
Metro Nashville Police arrested a man accused of robbing and murdering his own aunt inside of their Brentwood home.
Joshua Gaines, 29, is facing charges in the shooting death of his 47-year-old aunt Tivvis Garrison.
Police said a relative found Garrison's body on Saturday inside her Cobble Street home after they hadn't heard from her for several days. Officers say Garrison died from several gunshot wounds to the head, and her 2009 white Cadillac CTS, cellphone, and nephew Joshua Gaines were nowhere to be found.
Around midnight on Sunday, a police officer spotted the Cadillac on Woodland Street. The officer said he realized the tag number matched the car involved in the homicide and pulled the Cadillac over.
The officer said Gaines was driving the car and had a loaded revolver along with his aunt's cellphone. Detectives say Gaines rambled and wouldn't directly answer their questions when asked about his aunt.
Gaines faces felony gun possession and homicide charges.
