Police say a Kentucky special-needs teacher has been charged with sexually abusing a former student.

Kentucky State Police say in statement on Thursday that 37-year-old Amanda Phillips of Cynthiana was arrested and charged with first-degree sex abuse with a child over the age of 12.

Harrison County Schools listed Phillips as a teacher at Eastside Elementary School, but the district said in a statement to news outlets that she is no longer employed by the Harrison County Board of Education due to the allegations.

WKYT-TV reports Phillips' arrest report says the inappropriate relationship consisted of kissing and other physical actions of a sexual nature.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Phillips has an attorney.
