NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Buying pumpkins might be carving out a little more from wallets than usual this year.
Those carving pumpkins are expected to spend $21 million more this year than last.
Experts say inflation and pumpkin shortages are haunting some this Halloween. In total, Americans will spend about $708 million carving pumpkins this year.
“Over the last couple of months we’ve seen higher prices for meat products like beef and pork and now it looks like inflation is hitting Halloween,"Laura Adams with Finder.com says.“The combination of inflation and the pumpkin shortage as a result of drought and lack of labor might make for a harrowing Halloween.”
Adams suggests setting a budget before you start shopping.
