Three killed in crashes involving tractor trailers on midstate roadways

Three people are dead following two crashes involving tractor trailers on middle Tennessee roads.

Eric Gough, 39, of Collinwood was killed in a crash on State Route 13 in Wayne County Thursday morning.

Troopers say the cargo from a tractor trailer shifted and fell off the semi and onto Gough's car. No charges have been filed.

Two tractor trailers drivers have been killed and a passenger is left critically injured in a crash on I-40 eastbound in Hickman County.

It happened near Exit 152 to Bucksnort Road.

Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers say a tractor trailer going westbound hit a barrier in a construction zone and crossed the median, hitting another tractor trailer head-on that was going eastbound. Both drivers were killed. Troopers said one driver was a middle Tennessee resident and the other was from out of state.

The drivers killed in the crash have been identified as Johnny Smith, 58 of Smyrna and Muriz Smajic , 44, of Desplaines, Illinois.

A passenger who was in the sleeping compartment of the eastbound tractor was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The roadway is expected to reopen by 1:30 p.m.

In Wayne County, a person was killed when their vehicle collided with a tractor trailer on State Route 13. The victim has not yet been identified. That crash has since cleared.

Three people have been killed in two separate crashes in middle Tennessee.

Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers are investigating deadly crashes in Wayne County and Hickman County.

Troopers said State Route 13 closed near Highland Loop is closed in Wayne County. One person has died in that crash, which also involved a commercial motor vehicle.

Troopers also confirm two people have died in a crash along I-40 eastbound in Hickman County.

All lanes are blocked near Bucksnort Road. Exit 152 is being used to get around the crash.

THP said this crash involved two commercial motor vehicles, one of which was leaking fuel. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is en route to assist. Fire crews and EMS are on scene.
