JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WCYB) — An inmate accused of stabbing another inmate to death in Johnson County has been charged with murder, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

An investigation into the death of 70-year-old Robert Henry Hicks Jr. at the Northeast Correctional Facility in Johnson County began in January.

Authorities said 48-year-old Gregory Barner stabbed Hicks to death.

A Johnson County grand jury returned an indictment earlier this month, charging Barner with first-degree murder.
