Husband, wife killed in a car crash after leaving a family member's funeral

Metro Police have named the victim in Saturday evening's deadly car crash.

Police say, Troy Jenkins, 49, and Cameo Jenkins, 38, of Pegram were in the car when it crashed into a rock wall.

The couple had just left a church parking lot after attending a relative’s funeral. The Camaro accelerated rapidly on Cato Road.

Although there were signs of braking, the car did not slow sufficiently and struck a rock wall to the right of the roadway just prior to the Ashland City Highway intersection.

The victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where they were pronounced deceased.

Excessive speed is the primary contributing factor to the collision.

It appears that both persons were wearing seat belts, which, due to the age of the Camaro, were only lap belts. The car was not equipped with airbag.

The accident is still under investigation.
