Heidi Campbell beats incumbent Steve Dickerson in Tennessee state Senate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Democrat Heidi Campbell has beaten incumbent Sen. Steve Dickerson for Tennessee Senate District 20.

With 100% of the precincts reporting, AP reports Campbell ousted Dickerson with a final vote tally of 52% to 48%.

This comes after rounds of negative attack ads aimed at both candidates.

FOX 17 News spoke with a political expert about why they, and so many others are relying on negative ads to reach voters.

The short answer is, because experts say negative ads work, but not all of these ads are sponsored by the candidates themselves.
