Police said four people were shot inside a home in the Cascade Falls subdivision on Monday.

The Rutherford County Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh said the shooting happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Memorial Day at 1132 Rivercrest Drive.

Fitzhugh said officers found all four people dead inside the home with a handgun nearby. They believe three of them were murdered and one committed suicide.

Officers identified Sean Ganey as the shooter who committed suicide. The other victims are:

  • Cassidy Ganey, his wife
  • Kenny Adair, Cassidy's father
  • Shelly Lorenz-Adair, Cassidy's stepmother

Fitzhugh said officers were called out to the home on Friday for a suicide threat.

There was a young child involved, but Fitzhugh said the child was moved from the premise by another family member and the child was not harmed.

"The event that lead to this is very tragic," Fitzhugh said. "It's a terrible outcome to a situation we see far too often."

While the events of Monday's shooting are still under investigation, Fitzhugh said they believe there was a possibility of divorce or at least a comment about divorce that might have lead to this.

Only Sean Ganey and his wife Cassidy lived in the home at the time of the shooting.
