NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — *WARNING: Photos contain some graphic material*
Hate symbols and messages are spray painted on Nashville-area homes overnight.
Five Sylvan Park homes, on Westlawn Drive, and Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, and Idaho Avenues, were spray-painted with swastikas and hate messages early Sunday, Metro Nashville Police report.
Police have obtained RING doorbell video of an incident, which can be seen below, where one of the subjects spray paint the camera. They ask that residents, in the area with outside video surveillance systems, check for possible evidence.
FOX 17 News also came across the same hate graffiti Saturday afternoon at 37th Ave. N. and Murphy Road on a bridge in the Sylvan Park area. It was painted over an hour later.
Neighbors in the Sylvan Park area helped clean up the hateful messages Sunday.
There will be an increased police presence in the Sylvan Park area, and in the areas of Jewish institutions in the city, as ordered by Nashville Police Chief John Drake, the MNPD announced.
Mayor John Cooper responded to the vandalism:
Nashville stands united against the hate and bigotry these disgusting acts represent. Grateful to Chief Drake & his team for their ongoing work to track down those responsible and hold them accountable. We will not tolerate antisemitism or discrimination of any kind in our city.
Specialized Investigations Division detectives have taken over the investigation.
