Teen charged with homicide after gun discharges killing another teen
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A teen is dead and another arrested after a shooting this morning in Old Hickory.
Nineteen-year-old Zachary Able was handling a pistol inside a Ford Explorer with three other people at a ball field near Hadley Avenue and Old Hickory Blvd. , which went off hitting himself and 14-year-old Clayton Gangji, according to Metro Nashville police. The bullet went through Able's hand then hit Gangji in the side.
According to the affidavit, Able drove Gangji to the hospital, but away from the ER entrance. An unknown individual drove the Explorer away from the hospital. Staff brought Gangji into the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
During the incident, Able was reportedly cocking and uncocking a pistol he had just received in a gun trade, according to the affidavit. Able initially told police the shooting happened during a robbery near Percy Priest Lake.
Police believe the group had been up all night and are investigating their whereabouts as the investigation continues.
Able is charged with criminal homicide. His bond is set at $150,000.
A vigil is planned for Gangji at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Dupont Middle School.
